The Power of Writing

Welcome to the first ever Write With Community newsletter! Write With Community is your new home for literary events across the South Coast of MA and RI, and we couldn’t be any more excited to be writing to you today. With more than one hundred venues listing their events on the new calendar and guest bloggers from Providence to Marion, we’re linking and connecting writers to build a powerful new voice!

How does it work? We’ll be rolling out even more workshops, programs, and membership offerings in the next few months. Meanwhile, visit the website, listen to some amazing poetry, and come hear Midori Evans and Corey Nuffer speak in New Bedford at the Artists Index Salon Series.

We are offering our first virtual drop-in writing sessions! They are minimalist in structure, with silent writing, followed by an optional share in the last 15 minutes. As always, we are open for suggestions as to future offerings. Show up. Be heard. But always, write. And in this case, write at night. 

On March 12 at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, join us for She Maps The World: Poetry By Women. Experience poetry in a new way as you move through three museum galleries, listening to six local women poets share original work inspired by the natural world, whales, history, family, and the sea. This welcoming, come-and-go experience encourages audiences to listen, reflect, and explore at their own pace.

Write With Community’s Corey Nuffer, former contributing editor of now defunct Latino cultural magazine, Gozamos, and former WBEZ Chicago contributor with Amy Krouse-Rosenthal’s Mission Amy KR blog, was in this situation after moving from Chicago to Dartmouth.

”I was still writing for my magazine, from afar, as well as working on my own work. And so, I was craving local support and that larger ‘community’ experience that’s so prevalent in larger urban areas, as well as places that have worked to cultivate literary culture.”

That’s what we’re building here at Write With Community so I hope you can join us on April 8.
