28 Analyzing Your Space - Part 1

Embarking on a Creative Journey

In this 3-part series, we look more deeply at the physical spaces where we are working. Part 2 will tackle the balance between creative work and organizing. Part 3 looks at what long-term organization really means in a creative space.

One of the first things to do when you are embarking on something new is to take note of your space. Try looking at it with fresh eyes: when is the last time you were consciously aware of the items that are in your space? When did you last throw away old papers, dying pens, and more? There are multiple steps to creating a vital space for you to be able to work in, but the most important is to realize that, though useful, your space is merely a tool. Yes, it affects you. Yes, clearing the energy in your space will bring you needed energy. Yet you do not want your focus on analyzing and clearing your space to distract you from the work that is most important.
