Artists Share!
writers, painters, photographers, jewelry designers, musicians, mixed-genre artists and more!
This fall be part of a New Bedford-area Cross-Pollination exhibition…
Creative Catalysts is about seeing differing perspectives and learning how to connect more effectively. The goal is to see what comes from collaboration between artists, how does your work change? Would third-party audiences see a connection? Each artist will work with one (or more) artist to converse about a chosen topic and create artworks that reveal the variety of ways people react to the same thing. Topics are open to the artists.
Want some examples?
A musician makes a song and a photographer takes photos inspired by the music- think Kandinsky or stills from a music video.
From the same source material, a writer constructs a poem while a painter makes a painting. Maybe there’s a descriptive word you both feel influenced by or a similar memory attached to that topic.
Using the same source material, artists are inspired by each other’s techniques and try a new technique in their own medium. Maybe include text in your visual art, only use certain colors, provide yourself (or each other) limitations so you have to work outside of your usual routine to make an artwork.
A nature photographer and a textile artist makes a quilt/embroidery/weaving/fashion with natural materials.
Swap preliminary sketches/planning/pattern/etc and interpret it into a final work for each other. You could swap mid-working, too.
At Groundwork this fall, Greater New Bedford artists of all genres are welcome to take part in this opportunity to work alongside other creatives and share ideas and skills. What genre-bending magic will happen when two artists engage in each others’ sources and creativity? Come with your own pairing or sign up on your own to get paired with someone new for an inspirational working experience! Each artist will create one work to be paired with their partner which shows the culmination of collaboration in Creative Catalysts.
