Artist Way FAQ’s

  • No! Being creative is a human birthright. We are all creative, in one way or another. This course helps you connect to the part of you that loves to create, in whatever way you desire. Think of it as bringing you back to yourself, to activities that nurture your inner artist, regardless of who you are in the outer world.

  • The group will share insights, thoughts, ideas and their journeys through the book. A shared google drive is set up so participants can share work or thoughts or articles – anything they are discovering during the process that they would like to share. Weekly emails from the instructor have artistic homework assignments and thoughts about the weekly gathering. The instructor is always available via email for brief questions or to help with some encouragement!

  • The amazing thing about a group Artist’s Way experience is the success rate. So many people talk about how they have tried to do the Artist’s Way — on their own – and abandoned the book, or finished it but did the exercises so quickly that they experienced little meaningful change. Past participants of Midori Creativity Artist’s Way classes have said that having the group support and structure is crucial to making their way through it.

  • I hear people tell me all the time that “they aren’t creative”. I don’t buy it! I repeat what I said in question # 1: being creative is a human birthright. We’re born with it. People who think they aren’t creative just need to understand the ways in which they are – and that will happen in this course!

  • During the week, you work independently on your morning pages, your artist dates, and the material in the chapter. You can always reach out to another group member for support or to share ideas. During the weekly gathering, there is group sharing but always done in a safe and respectful way. You will never be pressured to share if you do not wish to. With larger groups, we sometimes break out into breakout rooms for smaller conversations.

  • The class meets every week for an hour for twelve weeks, following the twelve-chapter set-up of The Artist’s Way. You will be supported, encouraged, and cheered through the weekly virtual meetings; throughout the twelve weeks, you get meaningful emails, instructor availability, and shared resources.

You will find yourself circling through emotions, processing past feelings and discovering where you are now. You will see the ways you falter at the same time learn new skills for how to continue to grow. You will be making art and creating! What an amazing way to nurture your artistic self!

  • Midori Evans, founder of Midori Creativity, has done The Artist’s Way “more times than she can count”. Her insightful and gentle presence makes participants feel safe as they dig into long-buried emotions and her individualized exercises add rich meaning to the material.

A lifelong creative explorer, Midori loves to travel and is a gifted writer, photographer, musician, and educator. She draws on the inspiration of the natural world in her work as a creativity coach, writer, and landscape photographer. She founded Creativity Abloom, a series of conversations about creativity and currently runs Artists Share!, a monthly artist critique group, and seasonal Artist’s Way group classes.

Artists Way Testimonials

I have grown and gotten so much out of this experience. I learned skills that I can take with me, including how to make better habits and how to recognize blocks. I learned a whole host of tools to help loosen the blocks.

I feel like I could refer back to this material and these lessons for the rest of the year and benefit. Midori is so supportive and generous and created a safe space to heal and grow and also be challenged. I would do the course again in a heartbeat.

-Linda G.

"Midori steers the conversation gently, easily and skillfully, allowing for flow but still heading in a certain direction to keep on track with the chapter's topic. Each week brings insights from the group's members in thoughtful, useful ways."

-Denise D.

This book is intense. It’s not an average self help book you pick up every now and then. This book requires a group to hold yourself accountable, especially since it’s a ride for your own life as an artist. I wouldn’t recommend reading this book without a group. THIS group in particular has been open, supportive, and I feel welcome as well.

-Sophia G.

“I’m so glad I took your course.  It was a springboard to my new life!”
