A night beneath the stars

by Steven Frank

A night beneath the stars.

Love swells in my chest,

Even for just one night.

So few and far between; the moments.

Out onto the roof we climbed

Laying side by side,

Under the late autumn nighttime sky.

Your warm skin pressed against mine.

I know this moment is fleeting,

So I grip it tight

Hoping that I can draw a drop when it’s long passed

And my heart becomes parched

When you’re a million miles away.

A night beneath the dying leaves,

Tragic perfection defines you and I.

The sea of stars looks down upon us,

In awe of our glow.

Star crossed lovers

With everything to lose,

And nowhere to go.
