Exploring Patterns

Wondrous Exploration

What do patterns have to do with creativity? Our brains are designed to look for and function with patterns. Anytime we are working in the flow with our natural ways of thinking, we are making room for creative ideas to burst out from within!

From an early age, we learn to recognize the familiar faces around us through pattern recognition, helping us match our mother’s face to her voice and touch. We use patterns for grouping and categorizing items and their uses and for creating the syntax of a language. We can make the most of these pattern-making abilities by first and foremost recognizing all the ways that patterns exist in our lives. Habits? Those are patterns. The way trees branch off as they grow? Distinct, mathematical patterns. It’s like recognizing the giant framework of life: here is the structure and our creative ideas provide the intricate detail.
